I wasn’t always a “yogi.” As a former competitive gymnast, I’ve been naturally drawn to creative movement since childhood. In an effort to share my enthusiasm for fitness, I became certified in Group Exercise through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America in 2002. After graduating from Boston University with a degree in Communications, I moved to NYC to pursue a corporate career. I taught boot camp and body sculpting to keep my passion for health and fitness alive, but the pressures of big city life and working in a small cubicle left me feeling totally unbalanced. It was then that I discovered yoga.
Yoga didn’t come easily to me. I was frustrated that I couldn’t get into certain poses, and constantly forgot to breathe. Always up for a challenge, I made myself practice regularly, and slowly began to realize that it’s not about how long you can hold crow pose, it’s about letting go of what you think you can and cannot do, and taking the focus inward where your true power lies. Inspired by how yoga made me feel empowered and strong, I signed up for the teacher training program at Sonic Yoga, and became a Registered Yoga Teacher in 2010. I currently lead classes in 3 of the 5 boroughs and am tickled to have been rated a top trending teacher on RateYourBurn.
My mission is to make yoga fun and accessible to everyone! I specialize in working with beginners, and strive to inspire students to explore on their mat without judgement. My teaching philosophy is simple: “Breathe. Play. Grow.” I know that many people struggle to find time to fit yoga into their routine, so I’ve started an initiative to bring yoga to corporate offices. I’ve been fortunate to offer my services to multiple companies including: New Balance, Columbia University, King & Spalding Law Firm and Kate Spade.
Yoga has brought so much joy into my life, so it’s very important to me to give back. Each year I volunteer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Cycle for Survival event, I led a full day of stretch sessions at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and organized a benefit class for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. I proudly co-led the inaugural 200-hour Teacher Training at Anthea Yoga, and serve as a mentor for new yoga teachers getting started on their path.
When not on the mat I love to write, travel, and test out the latest and greatest in activewear. I am honored share my knowledge and experience as a contributor for Teachasana, an online educational resource for yoga teachers, and 365 Retreat, a positive news outlet and community for positive-minded people. I lead retreats worldwide at exotic locales, and am always planning my next healthy adventure. As a self-proclaimed “leggings-a-holic,” and as a former Athletic Apparel Buyer, I apply my knowledge of activewear as a consultant and ambassador for several yoga and fitness brands including Michi, Do You Yoga, Human Unlimited and Noli Yoga.
